Tokyo is the capital of Japan.

東京都 = Tokyo

The greater metropolian area of Tokyo may have the largest population of any metro area in the world. (Ref: Wikipedia:List of metropolitan areas by population.) The city has a population of over 12 million. The metro area has a population of over 36 million people.
