[edit] Introduction
Thunder Bay is the largest city in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. It is the second-largest city in Northern Ontario. It was originally two separate cities, Fort William and Port Arthur, until they merged in 1970. The name comes from the bay at the head of Lake Superior, known on 18th century French maps as "Baie du Tonnerre" ("Bay of Thunder").
