Sydney is the capital of the Australian state of New South Wales, home to over 4 million people, it is the most populus Australian city. Sydney stepped into world prominence after being declared the host of the 2000 Summer Olympic Games, and is the home for the globally recognized landmark, the Sydney Opera House. Sydney has nicknames which include 'The Harbour City', 'Sin City' and the 'City of Lights'.

Citizens of Sydney are known as Sydneysiders.
