Beach resorts are a notable feature of Porirua City, having given impetus to its earliest European settlements.

West-facing Plimmerton (first settled in the 1890s) and northwest-facing Titahi Bay are well known throughout the Wellington region. Others deserving mention are Pukerua Bay and Paremata.
