Pittsburgh:Software Engineering Institute

The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is a research organization funded by the United States government, housed and run by Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The SEI created the CMM (Capability Maturity Model) for measuring the level of repeatable, improving processes that an organization uses to manage its software creation processes. Out of the CMM, several other programs developed, including Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). The Software Engineering Institute also runs CERT. CERT is the Computer Emergency Response Team which deals with Internet threats such computer viruses.
