Officially the Arab Republic of Egypt, the North African country sits between the landmasses of Africa and Southwest Asia. It's intercontinental location means that Egypt has connections to Europe, through the Mediteranean sea, Asia and also the Islamic World, particularly in Africa. Egypt covers a total landmass of 1,010,000 square kilometres and is one of the most populous cities in Africa and the Middle East. A total of 79 million people make up its population, with the majority living near the banks of the Nile River, where the most fertile and arable land can be found.
