Category:Population under 10,000

In some countries a population of a couple of thousand may be enough to qualify for city status.

In others you need far more, eg in New Zealand since 1989 no new city can be created unless its population would be at least 50,000.

Wikitravel uses the term "cities" in the broadest inclusive sense.

So this category is to include all cities, towns, boroughs, hamlets, villages, suburbs, and similar settlements with population under or around 10,000. They may have their own pages and categories or may have subsidiary pages as part of a larger unit.
